Cowgirl style, with its roots in the frontier days of America, celebrates a unique blend of toughness and femininity. Cowboy wellies are a quintessential element of this fashion, offering protection from mud and rain while allowing women to embrace their inner cowgirl. Pair them with denim jeans, a plaid shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat for an authentic Western look, or dress them up with a flowing sundress for a modern twist.
Beyond their fashion-forward appeal, cowboy wellies serve as a symbol of independence and resilience, just like the women who wear them. Whether on a ranch or in the city, these boots bring a touch of the untamed West to any outfit, embodying the spirit of cowgirl style and reminding us of the enduring allure of the frontier.
]]>Choose the Right Size: Wellies should fit comfortably with enough room for your toes to wiggle, but not so loose that your feet slide around inside. Make sure to wear the appropriate socks for added comfort.
Layer Your Clothing: Autumn can bring fluctuating temperatures, so dress in layers that can easily be adjusted. Consider wearing a lightweight, waterproof jacket or coat, along with a sweater or long-sleeved shirt underneath. This way, you can stay warm and dry, even if the weather changes.
Wear Appropriate Bottoms: Opt for pants that can easily be tucked into your wellies to prevent rainwater from entering. Skinny jeans, leggings, or waterproof rain pants are good choices. This will also help keep your legs dry and warm.
Choose Moisture-Wicking Socks: Look for socks made from materials like wool, merino wool, or synthetic blends that wick moisture away from your feet. This will help keep your feet dry and prevent discomfort.
Consider Insoles: Adding cushioned or insulated insoles to your wellies can provide extra comfort and warmth, especially on colder autumn days.
Accessorize with Waterproof Accessories: Don't forget to protect other parts of your body as well. A waterproof hat, gloves, and a scarf can help keep you dry and warm while adding a touch of style to your rainy day ensemble.
Properly Maintain Your Wellies: To ensure your wellies last through the season, clean them regularly and store them away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. This will help prevent cracking and prolong their lifespan.
Pair with Autumn-Friendly Outfits: Coordinate your wellies with your outfits. Dark-colored wellies often work well with autumn colors, and they can be versatile enough to complement a variety of clothing choices.
Practice Good Traction: Wellies can sometimes lack good traction on slippery surfaces. Look for wellies with textured soles for better grip, or consider adding removable traction-enhancing devices to the soles.
Embrace Layered Fashion: Wellies can be a statement piece in your autumn wardrobe. Consider layering textures, patterns, and colors to create stylish outfits that incorporate your wellies seamlessly.
Remember, the key to wearing wellies effectively in autumn weather is to prioritize comfort, warmth, and protection from the elements. With the right clothing and accessories, you can enjoy the season while staying dry and stylish.

The best socks to wear with womens wellies are those that provide both comfort and warmth. Here are some options to consider:
Thermal socks: Thermal socks are made of insulating materials that trap heat and keep your feet warm. They are ideal for cold or wet weather conditions, making them a good choice for festivals or outdoor activities.
Wool socks: Wool is a natural insulator that is both warm and breathable, making it a good option for wearing with wellies. Look for a thicker pair of wool socks for added warmth.
Hiking socks: Hiking socks are designed for outdoor activities and often come with added cushioning for extra comfort. They also wick away moisture to keep your feet dry, which is especially important when wearing wellies.
Ankle socks: For a more casual look, ankle socks are a good option. They provide minimal coverage, which allows your wellies to be the focal point of your outfit.
Liner socks: Liner socks are thin and provide extra insulation for your feet. They are a great option to wear under thicker socks for added warmth, or on their own for a cooler day.
When choosing socks to wear with wellies, be sure to consider the weather conditions and the level of activity you'll be engaging in. The right socks can help keep your feet warm and dry, and provide added comfort while wearing wellies.
Clean the boots: Before storing your wellies, clean them thoroughly to remove any dirt, mud or grime. Use a damp cloth to wipe them down, and allow them to dry completely.
Stuff them: To maintain their shape, stuff the boots with newspaper or an old T-shirt. This will prevent the boots from collapsing and losing their shape over time.
Store in a cool, dry place: Avoid storing your wellies in direct sunlight or in humid environments, as this can cause the material to deteriorate or attract mold. Instead, store them in a cool, dry place such as a closet or basement.
Keep them away from sharp objects: Store your wellies away from sharp objects or anything that may puncture the material.
Use a boot tree: Investing in a boot tree can help preserve the shape and structure of your wellies. Simply insert the tree into the boot to hold its shape while it's not in use.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your wellington boots stay in good condition and are ready to wear when you need them.
]]>Recycling old rubber Wellington boots is an environmentally friendly way of disposing of them. Here are some steps to follow:
Determine if the boots are still usable: If the boots are in good condition and can still be worn, consider donating them to a local charity or organization in need.
Check with local recycling facilities: Contact your local recycling facilities to see if they accept rubber wellies for recycling. Some recycling centres accept rubber products, such as rubber boots, for recycling into new rubber products.
Find a rubber recycling programme: Look for rubber recycling programmes in your area. Many organizations collect old rubber boots and other rubber products and recycle them into new products, such as playground surfaces, flooring, and even new boots.
Upcycle the boots: If the boots are no longer usable, consider upcycling them into new and creative items. For example, you can use the rubber to make planters, doorstops, vases, utensil holders, bird feeders...the list stops at your imagination! .
By recycling old rubber wellies, you can help reduce waste and preserve natural resources.
If you are out walking in a lightening storm, take cover and count the number of seconds from seeing the lightening until the time you hear the roar of thunder. This will tell you how close the lightening is, in miles. The best course of action is to take shelter in a building or vehicle.
What protection do your rubber boots give you?
The best protection is to wear dry, clean boots with a solid rubber sole that is a good 1.5cm thick. Water conducts electricity so make sure your wellies do not have any holes in them.
Stay Safe
.
To wash your wellies you simply run them under a cold tap or hose (either with your feet still in them) or after you have taken them off.
The mud, if still wet will simply just wash off. If the mud has dried then it best to take a wet sponge or cloth and wash the mud off.
You may want to use a soft brush for the sole of the boot, to get the mud out of the tread grooves.
We do not advise using a brush anywhere apart from the sole, as it could scratch the wellington boot.
Do not use hot water on the rubber. Cool or warm water is best.
These cowboy welly boots dry very quickly and will be shiny as new in no time.
]]>
We recommend wearing woollen socks. Wool is a great natural fibre that repels and absorbs any moisture.
Two pairs of socks are excellent, a thin silk sock next to the skin, then a woollen thicker sock on top is ideal. Wool socks look great over the top of the boots with skinny jeans or leggings.
The other alternative is to wear some fluffy fleece welly boot liners which are super thick and warm and look great too. Talolo have designed their fleece welly boot liners with either fur or feather tops to sit above the top of the boot. They are super warm and work brilliantly with all wellies (not just Talolo Boots).

https://www.taloloboots.com/collections/accessories/products/boot-liner-socks
Another recommendation is to put some fleece or merino wool insoles into your boots, as these will help keep your feet toasty warm too.
If you are going out when it is icy make sure you have good grips on the bottom of your boots, to prevents slips.
Enjoy those winter walks!
]]>Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington was very prominent soldier and politician in the 19th Century Britain. He was also a very stylish man.
In the 1790s he asked his tailor to create a new style of boot for him that was shorter than the traditional ‘Hessians’, then worn by the British Army. These were designed to go with tighter trousers not traditional breeches.
In 1856 the Edinburgh-based North British Rubber Company started to manufacture Britain’s first rubber or ‘gum’ boots in the same shape. With the name of the Duke still retaining a patriotic pull on consumers, these new boots were soon renamed Wellingtons in Britain.
Their popularity did not become widespread until the First World War, when in 1916 the company was commissioned to produce millions of pairs as standard winter kit for ordinary soldiers, to prevent ‘trench foot’, a medical condition caused by prolonged exposure to damp.
At the end of the war, soldiers brought them home and introduced these extremely practical items of footwear to farms, gardens and allotments all over the country. A century later, music festivals and fashion catwalks are still benefiting from this wartime legacy.
Firstly, wear your cowboy welly boots in with thick socks on or a couple of pairs of socks. The rubber usually moulds to your feet in a pretty short amount of time.
Wellies are made from rubber which is heated to a very high temperature and then moulded to a last (the foot shape). The rubber then hardens into shape as it cools. This means that you can stretch your cowboy boots by applying heat from a hairdryer onto the specific areas but it is important to remember that you need to wear the boots in for a few days before doing anything, as they will naturally mould to your feet.
If you have worn the welly boots for more than a few days and they are still too tight, then you can apply heat to the critical area for some minutes with a hair dryer and then you must wear the boots immediately (when cool enough) to maintain the new shape that you have created. Wear them for a few hours so that the new shape is maintained.
You can also use boot stretchers which can be put into your boots and adjusted to the areas you need to expand. Keep checking them for size.
The more you wear your wellington boots, the more comfortable they become.
]]>
It is usually a good idea to go up a size with a welly. The boots needs to fit in the foot, the ankle and the leg, so getting all three to be perfect can be tricky. If you go up a size, it allows room for thicker winter socks to keep your toes and feet warm in the colder months. In the summer months when you don't need thick socks and you find that you are slipping around in the foot area, you can add in comfortable insoles. There are amazing shock absorbing insoles that make walking long distances a happy experience. There are warm cushioning ones and supportive ones that will make your summer walks in thin socks comfortable and more enjoyable.
Wellies are more difficult than other shoes to size, as they have no laces, or straps to adjust them so its important that you try them on.
Wellies are made from rubber which is heated to a very high temperature and then moulded to a last (the foot shape). The rubber then hardens into shape as it cools. That means that you can stretch your boots with applying heat from a hairdryer onto the specific areas but it is important to remember that you need to wear the boots in for a few days before doing anything, as they will naturally mould to your feet. If you have worn the boots for more than a few days and they are still too tight, then you can apply heat to the critical area for some minutes and then you must wear the boots to maintain the new shape that you have created.

When Phillippa Whitney asked to join my Facebook group, I was intrigued.
Why was a Banbury woman interested in Bath and what were these funky boots she was selling? When I scanned her profile to check she wasn't a scammer, I was sucked into the weird and wonderful world of Talolo welly boots.
Essentially a rubber cowboy boot, they're the next-level shoe we didn't know we needed. I bet you've all had that sinking feeling when you step out of the office and into a great, big puddle in your posh heels.
It's a real bummer - something Phil and her sister, Lucy Stoddart, knew only too well. They were running corporate events all over the world then the idea for Talolo Boots struck them. Phil explained how it all came about.
"We used to organise big, outdoor events and often we would have a meeting with the client in their boardroom. Then we’d go outside to look at the location, which was usually a muddy field, and we would ruin the lovely court shoes we'd been wearing for the meeting. It was a real hassle and yet you can't exactly wear normal wellies to a board meeting.
Phillippa Whitney launched Talolo Boots with her sister Lucy Stoddart, in 2019
‘We thought there has got to be something that is waterproof, that looks the part indoors and outdoors', but we couldn't find anything, so we decided to create it ourselves. The name 'Talolo' comes from the phrase 'tally ho'," the mum-of-three said.
Phil and Lucy launched some designs for their new boots in 2019 and started selling them at festivals. They also went to Brighton Pride, where the colourful wellies went down a treat.
"Our eyes were out on stalks, " Phil, 58, said. "We thought our boots were pretty wacky but they were nothing compared to what we saw there - and everyone loved them! We only go up to a UK size 8.5/9 at the moment but we still had men desperately trying to squeeze their feet into a pair of Talolo boots, because they really liked them."
A pair of Talolo Boots ranges from £72-79
Not long after that roaring success, lockdown hit and Phil and Lucy saw their calendar of events wiped clean. They spent 2020 learning how to sell online and getting up on the footwear trade.
"Lockdown was actually pretty good for sales because people were going on a lot of walks to get their exercise. They were a nice, fun product and you could wear them on a muddy dog walk or to your local park.
"Our customers are a really wide range of people. We have our festival-goers - they love them because they are not a clumpy welly and they can look quite cool while keeping their feet dry. A decent pair of cowboy boots will cost you between £400 and £500. So if you are going to a country music festival, you don’t want to trash your nice suede or leather boots.
"Then we go to sporting events, like polo matches and the Cheltenham Festival and no one realises they are wellies. People still don’t realise, even when I have them standing in water. Then you have got your city fashionistas who love them for going around town, or outdoor weddings, and yummy mummies who go to watch their children playing sports at the weekend.
"It's really, really wide because we have got the subtle ones and then we have got the over-the-top ones," Phil explained. But it hasn't been all plane sailing for the entrepreneurial pair.
"When we were just starting out, we went over to Dublin for the Gifted Fair at the RDS. We had forgotten about Brexit changing export laws and that made it so complicated because we weren't sure how many boots would sell.

"It was coming up to Christmas and the Republic of Ireland was on the verge of going into lockdown because Covid cases were so high, so there was very little publicity about the fair and hardly anyone turned up," she laughed.
Since then, she and Lucy have toured festivals all over the UK with their wacky wellies. If you like the sound of Talolo boots then you're in luck. Phil and Lucy will be selling them at a pop-up shop in Bath this weekend, so this is your chance to grab a pair.
She said: "We're right at the bottom of Milsom Street, where it turns onto New Bond Street and we're sharing with Slouchy - a Bath business that sells big cosy hoodies and dry robes.
"As well as our welly boots, we have our handmade boot jacks and fur-lined welly socks. The jacks are made by an opera singer who lives near my sister in Dorset.
"During the lockdown, he wasn't able to perform and he just so happened to be a woodworker. Now he makes our boot jacks for us and you can get them personalised, which makes a lovely present."
Phil and Lucy will be at the pop-up shop from 10am-8pm today (Saturday, October 8) and 10am-6pm tomorrow (Sunday, October 9). You can also browse the eight designs of Talolo Boots online here or find them in one of the 30 UK shops that stock them.
